My Reflection on ePortfolio Examples

Image
I have looked over numerous examples of e-portfolios and I find myself wanting to try some different e-Portfolio platforms. I actually started creating sites on Wix, Weeby, and WordPress to see how those platforms worked only to find myself going back to Google. I had to remind myself the importance of me using Google for my site. We are a Google for education school and almost everything I do is Google related so it makes sense for me to continue using Google. I do however like some of the features that are offered with Wix or WordPress, but then again it is not all about the extras they provide. It should be more about the content you are sharing within your e-portfolio and how you are using it for yourself.  Some things that catch my attention when looking at all the different examples are making sure that there is not so much information and writing on a page. I liked the sites that were more organized and not cluttered with lengthy writing and information. I found addin

Who owns the e-portfolio?

As I read over this week’s readings that talked about who really owns the e-portfolio I found myself starting to understand the true power of an e-portfolio. There was one quote in a reading that hit home to me, “The things we are supposed to do for it [the e-portfolio] are kind of like assignments and no offense but everybody knows, for assignments, you give them what they want – you give them what they want and they give you your mark, that’s basically the way it works.” (Tosh, Penny Light, Flemming & Haywood, 2005).   I started to think that is one problem in education, we set rubrics or guidelines for student’s to hit for a certain grade. Instead we don’t truly give them full ownership of the material and allow them to use their creativity to go for it. One reason I like the COVA model is not only does it allow us a voice in our creation that is authentic to our own learning environment, but it allows the learner to take more of an ownership to their learning. Why use an e-portfolio?

Image
As we continue to work on our e-portfolio’s this week, the question why use an e-portfolio comes up. This goes beyond all the reasons that were given in the readings that I have come across so far in this course. Sure an e-portfolio will show your growth in learning and allow you to reflect on what you have learned in a deeper sense. I feel those are great reasons to use an e-portfolio as those are some reasons I will continue to use my e-portfolio past my DLL courses. It will allow me to see my own growth in my education and a shift in my thinking as I understand different views of what I learn. It will allow me to reflect on what I believed and what I had believed in the past. It will allow me to showcase my work as I continue to build and develop this important technology piece, but there is something more. I believe the one thing that it helps myself and will help my students beyond the reasons given previously is allowing everyone to have a voice. I believe we taken own

Looking forward to my EDLD 5303 Course

I was excited to put together my first eportfolio in my EDLD5302 course. After this week’s readings from my new EDLD 5303 course, I understand more about the importance of creating and maintaining an eportfolio throughout your life. I can see how most people will drop it because of the lack of time, but keeping up with one will allow me to better reflect on my learning. It will also allow me to make meaningful connections that I can share with my fellow teachers and students. I want to be able to use my eportfolio to help my students and allow me to reflect on my learning. I challenged my students to create their first video assignment after learning and reflecting on the growth mindset in my previous course. This allowed my students to go outside their comfort zone and create something that they can be proud of. I was excited to see their results and accomplishments. I want to use my eportfolio to give them an example like I did with the growth mindset video.   I will h
