EDLD 5315 Week 1 Discussion
My EDLD 5315 Discussion Post On Action Research
As I went through the videos and readings I was able to
learn about action research. The one area that I came across that sets it
different than traditional research to me is reflection. In action research it
allows the teacher a process of making improvements through a 4 phase and 9
step process. It allows the teacher to identify the problem and what they want
to work on improving in the classroom. It continues by allowing them to reflect
on that process and revise it even more.
I feel that I have grown as an educator during my master
program because of reflection. I feel I have learned and put into practice
reflection on every aspect of my classroom and instruction. This is ultimately has
helped me become a better educator and trying new areas that I may have
normally not tried. I feel this new concept of action research goes together
with this reflection process, which will result in improving my practice as an
educator. You are able to look back on what you tried and make adjustments for
improvement as you get to the final stage of reflecting.
I feel of the most challenging part of the action reaction
would be the planning stage. To be more specific I feel the identifying and
limiting the topic would be the most challenging. I tend to have a ton of ideas
that I want to work on at once so I need to do a better job of limiting the broad
area down. I feel it will be easier to generate good data when I am able to
limit the topic. For example my research from my previous course was over
flipped classroom and how it could lead to more time for student engagement
activities that result in higher order thinking skills. This is really broad
and it can be dissected numerous ways. So the challenge is on how to dissect it
so I can gather strong data to reach a conclusion on how it worked especially
for a certain group of students.
